Oro Bailén Arbequina 2025 is a light to medium-fruity extra virgin olive oil with an approachable, modern profile. On the nose, it initially presents itself somewhat reservedly, with subtle herbal notes and a fruity impression reminiscent of light stone fruit. On the palate, however, the oil impresses with a beautiful fruitiness: juicy, rounded, and surprisingly powerful. Aromatically, Elstar apple, green almond, and delicate nutty notes take center stage. A striking feature is the pronounced peppery sensation, which settles like a pincushion on the sides of the tongue and lingers for a very long time, while the bitterness – typical of the variety – remains very restrained. Overall, the Arbequina 2025 presents itself on the palate as significantly more robust and harmonious than the previous year.
Origin & Processing
This extra virgin olive oil is made from 100% Arbequina olives cultivated in the province of Jaén (Andalusia) . The olives are harvested early using fully automated machinery and cold-extracted within a few hours in the state-of-the-art mill of Aceites Oro Bailén .
Oro Bailén is considered one of the world's most renowned olive oil producers and was recently awarded the title of best olive oil mill in the world for 2024/2025 . Even with the mild Arbequina variety, it is evident how much structure can be achieved through consistent processing.
background
The small Arbequina olive, originally from Catalonia, is traditionally considered a mild, approachable variety – and that's precisely the reason for its popularity. But that's not all. It's well-suited to super-intensive cultivation, where, depending on the farm, between 1,200 and 2,500 plants are grown per hectare. Due to its economic viability, Arbequina is increasingly being cultivated outside of Catalonia, particularly in Andalusia, Portugal, overseas, and now even in Italy. While most Arbequina olives are used for industrial oils, there are some producers who create a top-quality oil from these round fruits. Oro Bailén Arbequina 2025 belongs to the latter category. It's an olive oil for those who aren't looking for an extremely bitter "turbo-extra virgin" olive oil, but still value freshness, structure, and genuine extra virginity.
Food pairing
Oro Bailén Arbequina is a versatile everyday oil and is particularly suitable for:
• Vegetable dishes and roasted vegetables
• Salads and mild dressings
• Pasta and risotto
• Light fish and seafood
• Poultry
• Gentle frying and Mediterranean everyday cookingThanks to its low bitterness and noticeable spiciness, it is pleasantly approachable.
Note from the Master of Olive Oil
"The Arbequina 2025 from Oro Bailén is a beautiful example of how much an oil can differ between its aroma and palate. Rather restrained on the nose, surprisingly strong, juicy and very peppery on the palate – with hardly any bitterness. For me, it is an olive oil for everyone, especially for those who are not looking for extreme, edgy oils, but rather a very good extra virgin olive oil for everyday use."

To ensure the enjoyment doesn't end with the product description, this oil was imported into Switzerland under temperature-controlled conditions (between 6 and 18 °C, depending on the truck). The oil is also stored at a constant ambient temperature of 15–18 °C, protected from light. This temperature-controlled logistics preserves the chemical, physiological, and sensory quality of the olive oil to the best of our ability. In the olive oil business—especially in the premium segment—such meticulous care is essential, yet evoo.expert is one of the very few retailers who consistently maintain an unbroken cold chain. You can smell and taste the difference.
